FAQs & Policies

Dry salt therapy is a natural and non-invasive therapy that can help relieve the symptoms of a wide range of respiratory and skin conditions. Because salt is naturally anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and acts as an antihistamine, people experiencing everything from asthma to eczema may experience significant and lasting symptom relief following regular salt therapy.

While a client relaxes in one of our salt rooms, a machine called a halogenerator grinds up pharmaceutical grade salt into tiny particles that become airborne when dispersed into the treatment room. The dry salt particles are then inhaled deeply into the lungs to help relieve inflammation, loosen congestion, and allow easier and improved breathing. Because salt is anti- bacterial and anti-inflammatory, the salt particles help to open up the airways, increase oxygen intake and cleanse the airways of smoke, dust, pollutants and other allergens. In addition to breathing in the salt, the dry salt particles also land on the skin and help relieve symptoms of sore, flakey, red and irritated skin often associated with psoriasis and eczema.

Each individual’s needs can vary. The amount of sessions also depends upon the specific issue or symptoms you wish to target. You may begin to experience relief after one session. Salt therapy is most effective at improving chronic symptoms when administered at a minimum of twice a week for 6-8 weeks.

Once you have completed the initial recommended visits, it is important to maintain your visits for optimal wellness. You will be able to determine when you will need your next session.

You may notice a difference after your first session. Coughing or some sinus drainage is very common. This is a normal reaction to Salt Therapy and an assurance that it is working. You also may find that you are very relaxed and enjoy a better night’s sleep.

The Salt Retreat’s salt rooms are kept at a comfortable 68 – 72 degrees. Our recliners have optional heat for comfort or you are welcome to bring your own blanket if you wish.

While in the Salt Room, you can just sit back, relax and breathe deeply while listening to relaxing music or you may bring a book to read, or just close your eyes and unwind. Feel free to fall asleep or meditate.

Comfortable clothing is best.  You may have a very fine dusting of salt visible on dark clothing.  It will dust off easily, but you may prefer to wear light colored clothing.  If you are cold natured, you may prefer to bring a light jacket or blanket.  You will need to bring clean socks for group treatment rooms, and clean socks are also required for the children’s play room.

First time clients should arrive 15 minutes prior to session to check in.  If you’ve been here before and know the ‘routine’, simply allow enough time to be settled in your chair by the time the session begins.  Once the salt session starts, we cannot allow late entry into the salt rooms.  Please use restrooms before session, as we discourage opening the door during sessions.

Cell phones and other electronics are permitted in the treatment rooms.  If you choose to use an electronic device in one of our Group Rooms, it must be on silent and the brightness turned to low so that other clients aren’t disturbed. If you choose to use your cell phone or tablet in these treatment rooms, please note that we cannot be held responsible for any damage that the salt may cause to your electronic devices.  You also have the option of leaving your cell phone in a locker outside the salt room.  Please silence it before leaving it in the locker, as not to disturb anyone.

If you care to bring a book, magazine or other printed material, we have reading lights available at the front desk.

Salt Therapy sessions in our Group Rooms are quiet sessions. We ask all our guests to be please be aware of your neighbors in the Salt Room. Guests come to relax and enjoy the healing power of the Salt Room so talking is prohibited in our Group Rooms.
